Civilization VII ยท Exploration Age

Abbasid

The Abbasid civilization turns Navigable Rivers and Science infrastructure into an Influence-and-Great-Works engine, anchored by one of the strongest unique buildings in the Exploration Age.

Unique Ability

Ibn Fadlan's effect activates on a Navigable River tile, generating Influence for every tile of that river (scaled to game speed). The "City of Peace" Tradition adds further Science adjacencies to buildings built around the City Center.

Unique Unit

The Mamluk is a unique Cavalry unit with the Skirmish ability, and gains increased Combat Strength when attacking Settlements that have a minimum number of Specialists assigned.

Unique Infrastructure

The House of Wisdom is a unique building that must be built adjacent to an Urban tile. It increases Science, grants a set number of Relics, boosts Science generated by Great Works, and provides its own Great Works slots. Abbasid also receives increased Production specifically toward constructing this Wonder.

How to Play Abbasid

  • Settle with Navigable River access in mind โ€” Ibn Fadlan's Influence generation scales with how much of that river you control.
  • Assign Specialists to cities you expect to attack with Mamluks โ€” the Combat Strength bonus depends on the target Settlement having enough of them.
  • Build the House of Wisdom next to your best Urban tile and prioritize Great Works to fill its dedicated slots.
