Buganda

Buganda turns pillaging into a genuine Culture engine built around Lakes and Navigable Rivers — a raiding playstyle that generates as much peacetime value as wartime value.

Unique Ability

"River Raids" grants additional Culture when Pillaging Buildings or Improvements, equal to the yield or healing gained, and gives Land Units the Amphibious keyword so they attack with no penalty straight off Embarkation, with reduced Movement cost to embark and disembark.

Unique Unit

The Mwami is a unique Commander that increases yields from pillaging within its command radius. The Abambowa is a unique Infantry unit that heals by pillaging any tile — turning raiding into sustain for the unit itself, not just an income source.

Unique Infrastructure

Kabaka's Lake is a unique Improvement granting Happiness and receiving Lake yield bonuses, including bonuses that feed Buganda's other abilities and its associated Wonder, the Muzibu Azaala Mpanga, which adds Food, Culture, and Happiness on Lake tiles and must be built adjacent to a Lake.

How to Play Buganda

  • Settle specifically on Lakes connected to Navigable Rivers — nearly every part of Buganda's kit, including the associated Wonder, depends on this specific terrain combination.
  • Pillage deliberately as a core economic activity, not just during wars — the Culture return on Buildings and Improvements is strong enough to justify raiding even against otherwise-friendly neighbors.
  • Keep Abambowa units pillaging actively rather than retreating to heal — their self-sustain through pillaging means they rarely need to leave the field.
