Civilization VII · Modern Age

Qing China

Qing China runs the strongest import-driven economy of the Modern Age — foreign Resources convert into Gold, Culture, and Influence at a real cost to Science, making trade itself the core strategic choice.

Unique Ability

"Kang Qian Shengshi" increases Gold, Culture, and Influence from Imported Resources, but decreases Science from them — a genuine trade-off that rewards building an economy around trade volume rather than raw research.

Unique Unit

The Hangshang is a unique Merchant that earns Gold for every Resource acquired when creating a naval Trade Route. The Gusa is a unique Infantry unit that gets increased Combat Strength when adjacent to another Gusa, rewarding units that fight in formation.

Unique Infrastructure

The Shiguan (Science, with Happiness adjacency from Happiness Buildings) and Qianzhuang (Gold, with Gold adjacency from Gold Buildings) are unique buildings, combining into the Huiguan Unique Quarter, which adds Influence to its Settlement. The associated Wonder, Chengde Mountain Resort, adds Gold plus Culture for every other civilization you have a Trade Route with; it must be built adjacent to a Mountain.

How to Play Qing China

  • Build your economy around importing Resources deliberately — the Gold, Culture, and Influence gains from Kang Qian Shengshi are substantial enough to be a primary strategy, not a side effect of normal trade.
  • Offset the Science penalty with dedicated Science infrastructure elsewhere — Qing rewards leaning into trade, but you'll need to compensate for research specifically.
  • Group Gusa units together before engaging — their Combat Strength bonus depends entirely on having another Gusa adjacent.
